Dr. Nofzinger has served in a variety of service roles across his career as a means of furthering missions that can impact lives. 

Examples include:

Serving as a consultant to the Indian Health Services in the State of Alaska to study ways to improve the delivery of mental health care to Native Americans in remote regions.

Serving as a workgroup member on the DSM-IV task group on sleep disorders.

Representing the Department of Veterans Affairs at meetings of the Advisory Committee for the National Center for Sleep Disorders Research at the National Institute of Health.

Serving as the President of the Sleep Research Society

 Serving as a reviewer on NIH site visits for federally funded General Clinical Research Centers at leading Academic Medical Centers such as:

 Vanderbilt University Medical Center

University of Kentucky

University of Iowa

University of Washington

Temple University

University of California, San Francisco

University of Louisville,

University of California, Davis

University of Wisconsin

 

And chairing the GCRC site visits at:

Brigham and Women’s Hospital

Harvard Medical School

University of Miami School of Medicine

Tufts-New England Medical Center

Albert Einstein Medical Center

 

Dr. Nofzinger also serves on the Board of Directors for Project Z of the Lowcountry

Project Z of the Lowcountry

Approximately 22,000 children in Charleston County, South Carolina, go to bed each night without an adequate bed to sleep on, often sleeping on the floor. 

Project Z’s mission is to provide free twin beds, mattresses and bedding to local youth who lack an adequate, comfortable place to sleep. 

By ensuring that every child has a place to lay their head at night, Project Z is transform a community by helping children be healthier and more successful in school, one bed at a time.

Because every child deserves a good night's rest.
